The execution of an individual named Fathollah Avary, who was arrested during the nationwide protests in January 2026 in Hamadan, was carried out at Hamadan Central Prison. Reports indicate that the execution took place on 2 June 2026 at the same prison. The judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran had sentenced this individual to death on charges of enmity against God through the killing of a government force member during the protests on 8 January 2026 in Hamadan County.
It has also been reported that during a search of Fathollah Avary's residence, a murder weapon and some clothing matching images from surveillance cameras were discovered, and he reportedly confessed to the charges during interrogations. However, concerns have been raised about the judicial process and the potential use of torture to extract forced confessions in solitary confinement, as well as the denial of access to independent legal counsel and fair trials for political and security detainees within Iran's judicial system.
