Souran Eskandar Lotfi

Eskandar Lotfi, the spokesperson for the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Associations and a member of the Kurdistan Teachers' Trade Association, was arrested in Marivan on 8 October 2022. Reports indicate that security forces entered his home and broke windows during the arrest.

One hour after Eskandar Lotfi's arrest, Masoud Nikkhah, a member of the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Associations and a board member of the Kurdistan-Marivan Teachers' Trade Association, was also arrested after being summoned to the Marivan Intelligence Office. It has been reported that the arrests of these two teacher activists are related to their previous cases.

Eskandar Lotfi had previously been released temporarily from Evin Prison on bail in late August of the same year after enduring 108 days of detention. Masoud Nikkhah was arrested in Marivan in May of the same year and transferred to the Intelligence Office's detention centre in Sanandaj. He reported his transfer to Evin Prison on 5 June 2022.

Eskandar Lotfi was arrested by security forces on 1 May 2022 and went on a hunger strike for several days from the moment of his arrest. He again went on a hunger strike on 30 May of the same year in protest against his continued detention and the pressure to extract forced confessions.
