مجید کاووسی فر و برادرزاده اش حسین کاووسی فر در 11 مرداد 1384 پس از حادثه ای که منجر به کشته شدن حسن احمدی مقدس، قاضی دادسرای ارشاد شد، اعدام شدند. تصویری از لحظات پیش از اعدام مجید کاووسی فر ثبت شده که او را با لبخند و دستان بسته نشان می دهد، در حالی که برای مادرش و مردم علامت پیروزی نشان می دهد. این تصویر به یکی از ماندگارترین تصاویر تاریخ معاصر ایران تبدیل شده است.
