محمود در یکی از کوچه های حوالی چهارراه فلسطین با اصابت گلوله جنگی که به پیشانی اش شلیک شده بود، کشته شد. گزارش شده است که چون محمود از نخستین کشته شدگان آن دوره بود، خانواده توانستند پیکر او را پس از مواجهه با فشار و آزار نیروهای امنیتی تحویل بگیرند. همچنین اعلام شده است که محمود گرافیست بود و در همین زمینه فعالیت می کرد.
