Bahareh Hedayat

On Sunday, February 17, 2024, Bahareh Hedayat, born on April 5, 1981, a student activist and political prisoner detained in Evin Prison, underwent surgery after being transferred to the hospital and was sent on leave for a 10-day recovery period after her imprisonment was halted. Bahareh Hedayat is currently serving a four-year discretionary sentence on charges of assembly and collusion against national security.

According to this report; "Bahareh Hedayat was transferred from Evin Prison to the hospital on Sunday morning for an internal surgery. Following this surgery and considering the legal medical opinion, the judicial authorities agreed to suspend her sentence for ten days for her recovery period after the surgery."

Bahareh Hedayat was violently arrested on September 3, 2022, after the lock on her home was broken, without presenting a judicial order, by security forces and was transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 209 of the Ministry of Information for interrogation. She was interrogated in that security ward until October 27, 2022, on charges of propaganda activities against the regime, assembly and collusion, and promoting corruption and obscenity. Given that she had a pending case from her previous arrest, she was then transferred to Evin Prison to serve her four-year sentence on charges of assembly and collusion.

She was sentenced on July 26, 2020, by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, to four years of discretionary imprisonment on charges of assembly and collusion, eight months of discretionary imprisonment for propaganda activities against the regime, and as an additional punishment, this political and student activist was also sentenced to two years of deprivation of membership in political and social groups and three months of service in a nursing home for the elderly.

This student activist was arrested on February 10, 2020, after being summoned to the security unit of Tehran University and was transferred to the security ward of Evin Prison for interrogation and indictment. She was released on bail until the end of the trial period on February 18, 2020, after completing the stages of interrogation, enduring solitary confinement, and interrogations accompanied by threats.

This student activist was arrested by security forces in front of Evin Prison for participating in a peaceful gathering of families of political prisoners at the beginning of the year 2009.

Bahareh Hedayat was also arrested during the protest rallies in 2009 and was sentenced to seven years and six months of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of propaganda activities against the regime, interviewing foreign media, insulting the leadership, insulting the president, disturbing public order through participation in illegal gatherings, and also illegal entry and destruction at Amir Kabir University when Mehdi Karoubi entered this university. Two years of suspended imprisonment was added to this sentence for the charge of action against security through holding an illegal protest rally in another case.

After Bahareh Hedayat's case was referred to Branch 54 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals, this sentence was confirmed exactly, and this student activist was sentenced to a total of nine years and six months of discretionary imprisonment, taking into account the previous two years of suspended imprisonment.

This student activist was arrested again by security forces after organizing a strike in front of Amir Kabir University in Tehran on July 9, 2007, and after a month of enduring interrogation and solitary confinement, she was temporarily released on bail.

In 2006, Bahareh Hedayat participated in organizing protests against discriminatory laws against women and was arrested following a security forces raid on this peaceful gathering. After going through the stages of interrogation and completing the case, she was sentenced by the Tehran Revolutionary Court to two years of discretionary imprisonment with a five-year suspension for the charge of action against national security through holding an illegal gathering.
