A lawyer residing in Tabriz, Abolfazl Ranjbari, was arrested by security officers from the Ministry of Intelligence at 2:00 PM on Sunday, 4 May 2025. The arrest was conducted without a judicial warrant. It has been reported that the officers confiscated his mobile phone during the arrest.
Abolfazl Ranjbari holds a doctorate in law and criminal justice and is the author of a book on labour law. He has previously taught as a law professor at a university in Tabriz.
On 23 April 2025, the final defence session for Abolfazl Ranjbari took place at the third branch of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court. On Wednesday, 6 May 2026, he was released on bail of 50 billion tomans after spending one year in temporary detention, pending the issuance of a final verdict.
Additionally, the third branch of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced the lawyer to 17 years for complicity in spreading corruption on earth and 5 years for espionage, totalling 22 years of imprisonment. This sentence is subject to appeal in the Supreme Court.
ابوالفضل رنجبری، وکیل دادگستری ساکن شهر تبریز، در ساعت ۱۴ بعدازظهر روز یکشنبه ۱۴ اردیبهشت ۱۴۰۴ توسط ماموران امنیتی وزارت اطلاعات دستگیر شد. این بازداشت بدون ارائه حکم قضایی انجام شد. گزارش شده که ماموران وزارت اطلاعات هنگام دستگیری، گوشی تلفن همراه وی را توقیف کرده اند.
ابوالفضل رنجبری دارای مدرک دکترا در رشته حقوق و جزا و نویسنده کتاب حقوق کار است. وی پیشتر به عنوان استاد رشته حقوق در دانشگاه شهر تبریز تدریس کرده است.
روز ۳ اردیبهشت جلسه آخرین دفاع ابوالفضل رنجبری، وکیل دادگستری در شعبه سوم دادگاه انقلاب تبریز برگزار شد. وی صبح روز (چهارشنبه ۱۶ اردیبهشت ۱۴۰۵) با تودیع وثیقه ۵۰ میلیارد تومانی، پس از سپری کردن یکسال بازداشت موقت، تا صدور حکم قطعی آزاد شد.
همچنین، شعبه سوم دادگاه انقلاب تبریز، این وکیل دادگستری را به اتهام معاونت در افساد فی الارض به ۱۷ سال و اتهام جاسوسی ۵ سال حبس (در مجموع به ۲۲ سال حبس) محکوم کرده است که قابل فرجامخواهی در دیوان عالی کشور است.
