According to reports, on 24 August 2023, Abdullah Abubakri, a resident of Mahabad in West Azerbaijan Province, was summoned to the intelligence office of the city. After his appearance at the intelligence office, he was threatened due to not holding a memorial ceremony for his son, Zanyar Abubakri, who died during the nationwide protests of 2022. He was released after several hours of interrogation.
Zanyar Abubakri died on 27 October 2022, during the nationwide protests that were held following the death of Mahsa Amini. He was killed by a bullet fired by security forces. The forensic medical certificate stated that the cause of death was a ruptured vein due to a gunshot wound.
On 21 August 2023, Amnesty International issued a statement calling for an end to the harassment of the families of those who died in the 2022 nationwide protests.
براساس گزارش ها، در تاریخ 2 شهریور 1402، عبدالله ابوبکری، ساکن شهرستان مهاباد در استان آذربایجان غربی، به اداره اطلاعات این شهرستان احضار شد. پس از حضور او در اداره اطلاعات، به دلیل عدم برگزاری مراسم سالگرد برای فرزندش زانیار ابوبکری که در جریان اعتراضات سراسری 1401 جان باخت، مورد تهدید قرار گرفت و پس از چند ساعت بازجویی آزاد شد.
زانیار ابوبکری در تاریخ 5 آبان 1401، همزمان با اعتراضات سراسری که به دلیل جان باختن مهسا امینی برگزار شده بود، بر اثر اصابت گلوله نیروهای امنیتی جان باخت. در گواهی پزشکی قانونی، علت مرگ او پارگی سیاهرگ بر اثر اصابت گلوله جنگی ذکر شده است.
در تاریخ 30 مرداد 1402، سازمان عفو بین الملل با انتشار بیانیه ای خواستار توقف اذیت و آزار خانواده های جانباختگان اعتراضات سراسری 1401 شد.
