Mahiodin Ebrahimi

The execution of Mohyeddin Ebrahimi, a political prisoner from Oshnavieh, was carried out after more than five years of imprisonment in Urmia Central Prison. Reports indicate that the execution took place at dawn on 17 March 2023 in Urmia Central Prison.

In the early hours of the same day, his family was informed that the execution had been halted and returned to Oshnavieh. However, they were contacted early in the morning to collect the body of their son from Urmia Prison.

The night before the execution, the son of this political prisoner was arrested in front of Urmia Central Prison. Mohyeddin Ebrahimi had been summoned to the guard's office on Wednesday under the pretext of being sent to court and was then transferred to solitary confinement. His family had their last meeting with him on Thursday.

Mohyeddin Ebrahimi, ۴۳ ساله and a resident of the village of Alkawi near Oshnavieh, was shot and arrested by forces stationed at the Bimzarteh base in Oshnavieh on 3 November 2017 while working as a kolbar. On 23 September 2018, he was informed of his death sentence on charges of rebellion through membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan. His court session had been held on 20 August of the same year.

After appealing the sentence, it was overturned by the Supreme Court and referred back to the Islamic Revolutionary Court. On 18 January 2020, he was sentenced to death for the second time, and the sentence was communicated to him on the same day.

Mohyeddin Ebrahimi, who was married and the father of a disabled child, had previously been imprisoned for 14 months in 2010 on charges of membership in the Democratic Party. Additionally, his brother was killed in May 2017 while working as a kolbar at the Oshnavieh border, and his father had also been killed earlier by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
