Hedayat Abdollahpour

On 11 May, the execution of Hedayat Abdollahpour, a Kurdish political prisoner, was carried out at a military base in Oshnavieh.

Hedayat Abdollahpour had been transferred from Urmia Central Prison to an undisclosed location on 9 May.

This Kurdish political prisoner from Oshnavieh was arrested on 3 August 2016, following a clash between the Peshmerga forces of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the village of Qarah Soqol, near Oshnavieh. He was detained for 74 days at the detention centre of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Urmia, where he was reportedly tortured to extract forced confessions.

After the interrogation concluded, Hedayat Abdollahpour was transferred to Urmia Central Prison on 16 October 2016.

In February 2017, this political prisoner was sentenced to death by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia on charges of "armed rebellion and membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties of the Iranian government."

This sentence was overturned by Branch 47 of the Supreme Court, and the case was referred for retrial to the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia.

The retrial took place on 26 December 2017, with the presence of the Urmia prosecutor's representative, and he was sentenced to death for the second time. This sentence was communicated to him in prison on 18 January of the same year.

Following the verdict of the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia, Hedayat Abdollahpour's case was referred to Branch 47 of the Supreme Court, and on 8 October 2018, the confirmation of the death sentence was communicated to his lawyer.
