معصومه مصدق نوه دکتر محمد مصدق، روز ۴ اردیبهشت سال ۱۳۷۷ در خانه شخصی خود به قتل رسید. اتفاقی تلخ برای یکی از بازماندگان خانواده دکتر مصدق بود که نوع قتل آن بی شباهت به قتل های زنجیره ای که در سال های ۷۷ به بعد رخ داد نیست و حتی روایت های غیر رسمی می گویند «معصومه مصدق نخستین قربانی قتل های زنجیره ای است». روایت های مختلفی از قتل نوه ی دکتر مصدق وجود دارد. کوروش زعیم یکی از نزدیکان مرحوم مصدق می گوید سرایدار خانه بعد از حادثه گفت «کشتند خانم را با دشنه کشتند»، او از وجود اسنادی در صندوق دکتر مصدق حرف می زند اما اطلاعاتی از آن ندارد. ماشاالله شمس الواعظین سردبیر روزنامه جامعه در آن زمان، که پرونده قتل را پیگری می کرد گفت مرحومه مصدق با انگیزه سرقت کشته شده است. محمدمهدی عبدخدایی نامه تهدید آمیز فداییان اسلام برای تهدید به قتل نوه های دکتر مصدق را یک دروغ محض دانست و محمود مصدق هم پیش از این در گفت وگویی تاکید کرده بود: خواهرم هیچ چیز با ارزشی نداشت که بخواهند آن را سرقت کنند.

There were also mentions of documents in Dr. Mossadegh's safe, though no details were provided. At the time, it was suggested that Masoumeh Mossadegh was killed with the motive of robbery. However, another family member previously emphasised that she did not possess anything of value that would warrant theft.
