Vida Rabbani

Vida Rabani, a journalist imprisoned in Evin Prison, has been denied hospitalization and specialized medical treatment despite her poor health condition and undergoing medical tests. She was transferred to a hospital on 3 June 2024 and was returned to prison before completing her treatment.

Rabani was arrested by security forces in Tehran during widespread protests on 24 September 2022. In January 2023, Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, sentenced her to six years in prison for "collusion and conspiracy against national security" and fifteen months for "propaganda against the regime." This case was closed following the issuance of a pardon directive.

On 14 January 2020, Rabani was detained along with a member of the Union of Iranian Nation Party for calling for participation in a protest against the downing of a Ukrainian airplane by the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and expressing condolences to the victims' families. She was released the same day. She was arrested again by security forces on 23 November 2020 and was ultimately released on 20 December 2020 after posting bail from the Ministry of Intelligence detention center known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

In this case, Rabani was sentenced to ten years in prison and social restrictions by the Revolutionary Court in late 2021. Eventually, in late August 2022, she was sentenced in Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals to five years in prison for "insulting sacred values," four years for "collusion and conspiracy to commit a crime against national security," eight months for "propaganda against the regime," and eight months for "disturbing public order," along with a five-year ban on professional and political activities.

On 17 February 2026, reports emerged that she had been released from Tonekabon Prison on a bail of 6.5 billion tomans.
