On September 26, 2024, Amir Moavi, a political prisoner from the Malashieh neighborhood of Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province, is serving his combined sentence of imprisonment and exile in Babol Prison. He has been denied the right to appeal, parole, or leave. Amir Moavi has been in detention since March 2011, serving a 25-year sentence combined with exile.
A person close to the family of this political prisoner mentioned that since March 2011, he has endured various forms of physical and psychological torture while serving his sentence. Although he has served 13 years and 6 months of his 25-year sentence, the prosecutor in Ahvaz has not considered his case for parole or other measures.
It is noteworthy that Amir Moavi was arrested by security forces on April 20, 2011, during a protest gathering by the residents of the Malashieh neighborhood in Ahvaz. After being transferred to the detention center of the Ahvaz Intelligence Department, he was subjected to various forms of physical and psychological torture during interrogations. He faced charges including "the murder of a law enforcement officer," "injuring a law enforcement soldier during those protests," "acting against national security," and "waging war against God." In July 2011, after the completion of interrogations, he was transferred to Karun Prison in Ahvaz. However, following the closure of Karun Prison, he was moved to Sheiban Central Prison in Ahvaz on January 31, 2016.
After the interrogations, Amir Moavi's case was reviewed by an investigator from the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Ahvaz. Following the preparation of the indictment, his case was referred to the Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz for trial.
In the fall of 2011, Amir Moavi was tried by Judge Kiasti, the head of Branch 4 of the Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz, and in February of the same year, he was sentenced to 35 years of imprisonment combined with exile to Babol Prison for the charge of "waging war against God." Following an appeal and legal actions, his 35-year sentence was reduced to 25 years of imprisonment with exile to Babol Prison, and this was communicated to him in 2017.
