Mohsen Niazi

On 20 November 2022, Mohsen Niazi, a protester from Dehgolan, died after being shot at close range by security forces. Reports indicate that the night before his death, he had expressed support for Mahabad on his Instagram story after witnessing events there, and the following day, he joined the street protests. On that day, Dehgolan was experiencing a strike, with young people taking to the streets to protest the killing of demonstrators.

It has been reported that Mohsen had a verbal altercation with a security officer, who then shot him in the back at close range. Additionally, it was reported that security forces hindered assistance and fired at nurses, causing delays in transferring Mohsen Niazi to the hospital. After being taken to Kowsar Hospital in Sanandaj, Mohsen Niazi succumbed to his injuries at 10 p.m. on the same date.

Reports suggest that security forces attempted to seize his body by storming the courtyard of Kowsar Hospital and confronting his family and relatives. However, they were unsuccessful due to the intervention of Dehgolan residents and the gathering of young people from Sanandaj. Mohsen Niazi's body was laid to rest in Dehgolan's cemetery, with a large turnout from the local community.

The Civil Registry Office has declared the cause of Mohsen Niazi's death as "unknown." It has also been reported that security agencies proposed registering Mohsen with the Martyrs Foundation and offered compensation to his family, which they declined, seeking justice instead.

Mohsen Niazi worked as a rebar worker and a construction contractor. He had a keen interest in boxing and was active in both boxing and mountaineering. Mohsen Niazi was known as a calm and kind individual. He was the son of Habibollah and Marzieh and was born on 1 June 1989 in Dehgolan County.
