From the very beginning, Witness Report was created with the goal of documenting human rights violations, particularly arrests and executions, in both Iran and Afghanistan. The intention was to build a reliable and structured database covering both countries.
As the project developed, we faced a key challenge. Accurate and responsible documentation requires people who are familiar with the local language, sources, and context. Unfortunately, we were not able to find volunteers or a dedicated team from Afghanistan who could consistently and reliably contribute to this effort.
At the same time, the volume of cases related to Iran grew significantly, requiring our full attention and limited resources. To maintain the accuracy and quality of the data, we decided to focus on Iran and pause documenting cases from Afghanistan.
This decision does not mean that the situation in Afghanistan is overlooked. Rather, it reflects our commitment to maintaining reliable and verifiable data. If the right conditions are met and knowledgeable volunteers from Afghanistan join the effort, this section can be resumed.
