On the afternoon of Thursday, October 12, 2023, Mokhtar Zarei, a journalist and media activist, who was detained and held without charges in the central prison of Sanandaj in Kurdistan Province, was released on bail pending the completion of legal proceedings.
His release was secured through the posting of bail, and he is now awaiting notification to appear in court. Details regarding the charges against Mokhtar Zarei during the legal proceedings have not been disclosed.
Mokhtar Zarei was arrested at his home by security forces on September 25, 2023, and after being transferred to the prosecutor's office and informed of the charges, he was taken to the central prison of Sanandaj until bail was posted.
Previously, on May 8, 2019, this journalist was tried by Judge Ali Saeedi, head of the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, on charges of "propaganda against the regime" and was sentenced on July 18, 2019, to one year of imprisonment.
In an earlier incident on September 11, 2018, coinciding with protest gatherings in Kurdistan following the execution of Ramin Hossein Panahi, Zaniar Moradi, and Loghman Moradi, Mokhtar Zarei was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj. After undergoing interrogation and being informed of the charges, he was temporarily released from the central prison of Sanandaj on September 13 of the same year, on a bail of 30 million tomans.

به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران، عصر امروز پنجشنبه ۲۰ مهر ماه ۱۴۰۲، مختار زارعی، رزونامه نگار و فعال رسانه ای، محبوس و بلاتکلیف در زندان مرکزی شهر سنندج در استان کردستان، پس از تامین وثیقه صادره تا اتمام مراحل دادرسی آزاد شد.
براساس این گزارش، آزادی مختار زارعی با تودیع قرار وثیقه صورت گرفته و او باید در انتظار دریافت ابلاغیه برای حضور در جلسه دادگاه باشد.
همچنین، از اتهامات تفهیم شده به مختار زارعی در مرحله دادرسی اطلاعی حاصل نشده است.
لازم به اشاره است، مختار زارعی، در تاریخ ۳ مهرماه ۱۴۰۲، توسط ماموران امنیتی در منزل خود، بازداشت و پس از انتقال به دادسرا و تفهیم اتهام تا زمان تامین وثبقه به زندان مرکزی سنندج، منتقل شده بود.
این روزنامه نگار، پیش از این هم در تاریخ ۱۸ اردیبهشت ماه ۱۳۹۸، توسط قاضی علی سعیدی، رئیس شعبه اول دادگاه انقلاب شهر سنندج از بابت اتهام(فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام) محاکمه و در تاریخ ۲۷ تیرماه ۱۳۹۸، به تحمل ۱ سال حبس تعزیری محکوم شده بود.
مختار زارعی، نخستین مرحله، در تاریخ ۲۰ شهریور ۱۳۹۷، همزمان با برگزاری تجمعات اعتراضی در کردستان که به دلیل اجرای حکم اعدام رامین حسین پناهی، زانیار مرادی و لقمان مرادی صورت گرفته بود توسط نیروهای امنیتی در سنندج، بازداشت و پس از طی مراحل بازجوئی و تفهیم اتهام در تاریخ ۲۲ شهریور ماه همان سال با قید وثیقه ۳۰ میلیون تومان، از زندان مرکزی سنندج به صورت موقت آزاد شده بود.
