Naser Hemmati, a psychiatrist and writer from Abdanan, was arrested in December 2024 after being summoned to the first branch of the Abdanan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office. He was later released on bail. The charges against him included propaganda against the regime, insulting the leadership, and endorsing the Zionist regime.
In late August 2026, the sixth branch of the Ilam Court of Appeals upheld Hemmati's prison sentence. It has been reported that Hemmati stated he was previously acquitted of the charge of blasphemy by the Ilam Criminal Court One.
