Amir-Abbas Hoveyda was born in Tehran and served as the 37th Prime Minister of Iran from 1964 to 1977. His tenure lasted 12 years and six months, marking the longest period of premiership in the history of Iran.
Hoveyda and Nasser were among 132 former statesmen arrested by order of the Shah. Hoveyda was unaware that his detention would continue until the victory of the 1979 revolution. Following the declaration of military neutrality by General Abbas Gharabaghi on 11 February 1979, prison guards were instructed to release Hoveyda and advised him to escape. He was provided with a car key and a pistol to aid in his escape.
Despite having the opportunity to flee, Hoveyda did not leave Iran. Instead, he surrendered to the interim government of Mehdi Bazargan through Dariush Forouhar. He was subsequently handed over to the Revolutionary Court. According to one account, he was executed by order of the court judge, while another account suggests he was killed during a recess before the trial concluded on 7 April 1979.
امیرعباس هویدا در تهران متولد شد و از سال ۱۳۴۳ تا ۱۳۵۶ به عنوان سی و هفتمین نخست وزیر ایران فعالیت کرد. دوره نخست وزیری او به مدت ۱۲ سال و شش ماه طول کشید و به عنوان طولانی ترین دوره نخست وزیری در تاریخ ایران شناخته می شود.
هویدا و نصیری از جمله ۱۳۲ دولتمرد پیشین بودند که به دستور شاه بازداشت شدند. هویدا از ادامه بازداشت خود تا پیروزی انقلاب ۱۳۵۷ بی اطلاع بود. با اعلام بی طرفی ارتش به دستور ارتشبد عباس قره باغی در ۲۲ بهمن ۱۳۵۷، به نگهبانان زندان دستور داده شد که هویدا را آزاد کنند و به او توصیه شد که فرار کند. برای کمک به او، کلید یک اتومبیل و یک قبضه هفت تیر در اختیارش قرار داده شد.
هویدا به رغم داشتن امکان فرار، از ایران نگریخت و از طریق داریوش فروهر خود را به دولت موقت مهدی بازرگان تسلیم کرد. او سپس به دادگاه انقلاب تحویل داده شد و به روایتی با حکم قاضی دادگاه اعدام شد و به روایتی دیگر قبل از اتمام دادگاه در وقت تنفس در ۱۸ فروردین ۱۳۵۸ به قتل رسید.
