Habib Derris

Habib Deris — son of Abdolamir, born in 1983 and a resident of Qaleh Chanan, Ahvaz — was arrested on February 9, 2019, by security agents in Karun County, Khuzestan Province. After being transferred to the detention center of the Khuzestan Intelligence Department, he underwent intense interrogation while being deprived of his basic rights as a detainee and subjected to severe torture, including beatings with cables and other violent methods.

He was accused in connection with the alleged premeditated killing of two officers from Imam Khomeini Port Police Station 13 — Lieutenant AllahNazar Safari and conscript Mohammadreza RafieeNasab — who were reportedly shot dead with a Kalashnikov rifle on January 25, 2019. These charges were brought by Prosecutor Kambiz Hashemian, head of Branch 12 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutors Office in Ahvaz. In August 2019, he was transferred to the quarantine ward of Sheiban Central Prison in Ahvaz.

As judicial proceedings began, Habib Deris was tried by the judge of Branch 4 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court. He was sentenced to death on charges of 'moharebeh enmity against God ' through effective membership in the group Harakat alNidhal during the years 2017 and 2018, and for allegedly carrying out some of the groups armed operations in Khuzestan Province.

Following the issuance of this sentence, in late March 2023, Mizan News Agency — the official media outlet of the Iranian judiciary — reported without providing case details that: 'Six members of the terrorist group Harakat alNidhal, responsible for parts of the group's armed operations in Khuzestan Province in 2017 and 2018, have been sentenced to death.'

Additionally, Fars News Agency, in a report dated November 12, 2018, claimed that two motorcyclists were shot on the ArvandSaghir coastal road and later confirmed that both had died. It was later revealed that the victims were members of the Basij paramilitary force , identified as Ali SalehiMajd and Younes Bahr.

At dawn on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Seyed Adnan Ghabishavi was executed.

The charges attributed to this prisoner included: 'participation in armed operations,' 'involvement in the armed killings of AllahNazar Safari, Mohammadreza RafieeNasab, Ali SalehiMajd, and Younes Bahr all law enforcement members ,' 'planning and carrying out acts of sabotage including bombmaking and placement,' 'the bombing of a Khorramshahr gas station,' 'armed attacks on banks,' 'throwing grenades at a military center,' and 'shooting at mosques in Khuzestan Province.' He was also alleged to have been in contact with 'antiregime elements abroad' to carry out these acts.

Karim Dahimi, a human rights activist, told Iran Human Rights: 'First, the murder in Abadan occurred about a month before these individuals were arrested. According to the Abadan governor, the murder was due to a family dispute. So it's highly questionable that these charges were attributed to him after his arrest. Furthermore, the allegation of "links with Israel" is false.'

He added: 'After his execution, even his body was not returned to his family. There are serious concerns regarding the legal process — from interrogation to confession — as the confessions were extracted under torture. During interrogation, the agents also threatened his family with sexual assault. The prisoner himself was severely beaten and tortured. His trial completely disregarded the principles of a fair and just legal process.'

He further stated: 'The family was threatened and told they were not allowed to hold a mourning ceremony. They were also denied a final visit before the execution, which was carried out without prior notice to the family.'
