It has been reported that government authorities demanded 500 million tomans from the family for the return of the bodies of a father and son. The bodies were buried in their native village on 11 January 2026.
Mani Shafiei and his father Mehdi died from gunshot wounds on the evening of 9 January 2026 in Eslamshahr. Mehdi, aged 44, was first killed by a direct shot to the heart at around 8:30 PM in Eslamshahr, in the Qaemieh neighbourhood, at the second square, alley 19. Subsequently, at around 10 PM, Mani died from a gunshot to his spleen a few alleys away, in alley 8, in front of his grandparents' house.
It has been stated that Mani was unaware of his father's death at the time of his own passing. Reports also indicate that the father and son were close, often together, shared an interest in sports, and attended a gym together. Mehdi worked in construction, while Mani was an accounting student and worked as an accountant at a company alongside his studies.
On the morning of 16 February 2026, as the fortieth-day memorial ceremonies for several deceased individuals, including Mehdi and Mani Shafiei, approached, security forces went to the village of Chenar to prevent the ceremonies from taking place and arrested many people in the village.
گزارش شده است که نهادهای حکومتی برای تحویل پیکر پدر و پسر مبلغ ۵۰۰ میلیون تومان از خانواده آنان مطالبه کرده اند. پیکر این دو نفر در ۲۱ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴ در روستای زادگاهشان به خاک سپرده شده است.
مانی شفیعی و پدرش مهدی در شامگاه ۱۹ دی ماه در اسلام شهر با اصابت گلوله جان باختند. ابتدا مهدی ۴۴ ساله حدود ساعت ۸:۳۰ در اسلام شهر شهرک قائمیه میدان دوم کوچه ۱۹ با شلیک مستقیم گلوله به قلب کشته شد و سپس حدود ساعت ۱۰ شب مانی چند کوچه آن طرف تر کوچه ۸ مقابل خانه پدربزرگ و مادربزرگش در اثر اصابت تیر به طحالش جان باخت.
گفته شده است که مانی هنگام جان باختن از کشته شدن پدرش آگاه نبود. همچنین گزارش شده است که این پدر و پسر به هم نزدیک و همیشه با هم بودند و به ورزش علاقه مند بودند و با هم به باشگاه بدنسازی می رفتند. مهدی در کار ساختمان بود و مانی دانشجوی حسابداری و همزمان با تحصیل در یک شرکت به عنوان حسابدار کار می کرد.
صبح ۲۷ بهمن ماه ۱۴۰۴ همزمان با نزدیک شدن به زمان برگزاری مراسم چهلم برخی از جان باختگان از جمله مهدی و مانی شفیعی، نیروهای امنیتی به روستای چنار رفتند تا مانع برگزاری مراسم چهلم کشته شدگان شوند و افراد بسیاری را در روستا بازداشت کردند.
