Yourosh Mehr Alibiglou

According to reports from Human Rights in Iran, on 3 June 2025, Yurosh Yilmaz Mehrali Bilgu, a national civil activist, was tried by the judge of Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz.

It is noted that on 26 May 2024, Mehrali Bilgu, a national civil activist residing in Jolfa County, East Azerbaijan Province, was charged by the investigator of the First Branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of that county.

In another part of his case, this Turkish activist was sentenced by the East Azerbaijan Province Court of Appeal in May 2026 to six years and two months in prison for "forming an illegal group" and three years and seven months for "assembly and collusion." This case is currently under review by the Supreme Court.

Yurosh Mehrali Bilgu was arrested by intelligence officers in Jolfa County in November 2023 and transferred to the detention centre of this institution in Tabriz. He was moved to Tabriz Prison in February of the same year and was subsequently temporarily released on bail.

A knowledgeable individual reported that during this interrogation session, Mehrali Bilgu was charged with "inciting gatherings and unrest," "disturbing public opinion," and "ethnic and Pan-Turkist activities." After the indictment was prepared, he must now await notification to attend a hearing for his charges.

Since his arrest, this national civil activist had only one brief contact with his family on 14 November 2023 and had no further communication or visits with them. During this period, his family repeatedly visited the interrogation branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Tabriz but did not receive a satisfactory response. He was released on bail on 18 February 2024.

It is important to mention that Yurosh Mehrali Bilgu was arrested by security forces on 7 November 2023 and, after being transferred to the detention centre of the General Directorate of Intelligence of East Azerbaijan Province in Tabriz, was moved to the central prison in Tabriz following lengthy interrogations and a prolonged period of uncertainty.

This national civil activist was also arrested by Tabriz intelligence officers in January 2013. After several months of interrogation and being charged in the interrogation branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Tabriz, he was sentenced on 5 May 2013 by the judge of Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz to nine years of imprisonment for forming an illegal group and propaganda against the regime. This sentence was reduced to eight years after the consolidation of issued sentences, and he was released from Tabriz Central Prison on 23 February 2017 after serving five years of his sentence.
