Pirouz Davani

Pirouz Davani was first arrested after the revolution—in September 1982—on charges of sympathizing and engaging in activities with the Youth Organization of the Tudeh Party of Iran, and he spent seven months in prison. Following his release in 1983, and despite being under the surveillance of the police and security agencies, he carried out extensive activities to support workers as well as the families of political prisoners and victims of political killings. In this capacity, he founded the "Association for the Support of Political Prisoners (Inside the Country)" and worked to disseminate information and expose the truth regarding the massacre of political prisoners.
Pirouz Davani was arrested for the second time on March 3, 1991. On this occasion, he spent six months in solitary confinement at Evin Prison. Seven months after his arrest, he was tried in a closed-door court and sentenced to three years in prison and 50 lashes. Davani served his three-year sentence at Evin Prison.
Pirouz Davani was released from prison in the winter of 1995 and resumed his activities regarding human rights and fostering consensus among opposition forces. Following his release, he founded the "Payam-e Pirouz Research Company." Through this company, he published photocopied booklets titled *Pishro* (The Vanguard). These political bulletins featured articles by various individuals holding diverse viewpoints, covering analyses of the situation in Iran, human rights violations, and the conditions of prisons and political prisoners.
On Tuesday, August 25, 1998 (Shahrivar 3, 1377), Pirouz Davani left his home to visit his sister and never returned.
Since then, no trace of Pirouz Davani has been found, and the judiciary has not confirmed his murder. He is, in fact, a case of a dissident being "disappeared" in Iran; however, based on the confessions of the accused in the "Chain Murders" case, he was killed around that time, and his body was burned and buried near the railway tracks.
