On Friday, June 20, 2025, Behnam Vaziri Nia, a resident of Tehran and a cultural and Qashqai language activist, was arrested by security forces at his home. According to an informed individual speaking with a human rights reporter in Iran: "The reason for Mr. Vaziri Nia's arrest was his activities concerning the suppression and intimidation of Qashqai citizens in Iran and the deprivation of these citizens from accessing their basic rights. This cultural activist had published extensive protest materials regarding the monolingual nature of Iran's educational system and, in general, in support of Qashqai culture before his arrest."
This informed individual noted regarding the manner of Behnam Vaziri Nia's arrest: "On June 20, agents raided Behnam Vaziri Nia's home, searched the premises, and confiscated some items, including his mobile phone, before arresting this cultural activist. Since his arrest, Mr. Vaziri Nia has had several brief phone calls and a few meetings with his family, stating that he was arrested by Intelligence Ministry agents, transferred to Ward 209 for interrogation, and after the interrogation process, transferred to the investigation branch of District 33 Prosecutor's Office in Tehran, and after being charged, he was sent to Evin Prison."

به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران، روز جمعه ۳۰ خرداد ماه ۱۴۰۴، بهنام وزیری نیا، ساکن تهران، فعال فرهنگی و زبان قشقایی، توسطنیروهای امنیتی در منزل شخصی خود دستگیر شده است. سرکوب فعالان فرهنگی و قومی در ایران یکی از معضلات جدی حقوق بشری در دهه های اخیر به شمار می رود. حکومت جمهوری اسلامی در ایران، همواره نسبت به فعالیت های صنفی، فرهنگی و هویتی اقوام مختلف – از جمله شهروندان کرد، نرک، عرب ، بلوچ و ترکمن های ایران، حساسیت نشان داده و بسیاری از فعالان این حوزه ها را با اتهاماتی نظیر «اقدام علیه امنیت ملی»، «تبلیغ علیه نظام»، یا «عضویت در گروه های مخالف نظام» بازداشت و محاکمه کرده است.
به نقل از یک فرد مطلع در گفتگو با گزارشگر حقوق بشر در ایران:”علیت دستگیری آقای وزیری نیا، فعالیتهای وی در خصوص سرکوب و ارعاب شهروندان قشقایی در ایران و محرومیت این شهروندان از دسترسی به حقوق اولیه شان بوده است و این فعال فرهنگی، تا پیش از دستگیری مطالب اعتراضی گسترده ای را در زمینه تک زبانی بودن نظام آموزشی ایران و در کلیت حمایت فرهنگی قشقایی منتشر کرده بود.”
این فرد مطلع در خصوص چگونگی دستگیری بهنام وزیری نیا خاظرنشان کرد:”ماموران، در تاریخ ۳۰خرداد ماه، با یورش به منزل بهنام وزیری نیا، پس از تقتیش و توقیف برخی لوازم از قبیل گوشی تلفن همراه اش، این فعال فرهنگی را دستگیر کردند و از زمان دستگیری آقای وزیری نیا، چند مرحله تماسهای تلفنی کوتاه و چند ملاقات با خانواده خود داشته و عنوان کرده که توسط ماموران وزارت اطلاعات، دستگیر شده و برای بازجویی به بند ۲۰۹، منتقل و پس از طی مراحل بازجویی به شعبه بازپرسی دادسرای ناحیه ۳۳ تهران، منتقل و پس از تفهیم اتهام به زندان اوین منتقل شد.”
بهنام وزیری نیا، دانش آموخته مقطع مهندسی در رشته عمران و معماری است.
