Majid Kazemi Sheikh Shabani, one of the three protesters associated with the "Khaneh Isfahan" case, was executed on 19 May 2023. He had been accused of shooting and killing two Basij members and a special unit colonel in Isfahan and was charged with waging war against God. The execution took place despite calls for a halt in the days leading up to it.
Majid Kazemi was arrested on 21 November, a few days after the Khaneh Isfahan incident, at his brother's house along with several other defendants in the case. On 13 January 2023, he reported from prison about mistreatment and torture, stating that he was forced to confess under pressure. Saeed Yaghoubi and Saleh Mirhashemi Boltaghi were also executed in connection with the same case.
Televised confessions are a common practice in the Islamic Republic of Iran, typically occurring before the execution of a defendant. Saeed Yaghoubi also confessed on camera. In an audio file sent from Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan on 13 January 2023, he reported repeated torture and violence.
Following the announcement of the Supreme Court's verdict and the broadcast of forced confessions, families and some members of the public gathered in front of the prison to protest and prevent the executions.
On a Sunday evening, news of the potential execution of Majid Kazemi and two other protesters from the Khaneh Isfahan case led a group of people in Isfahan to gather in front of Dastgerd Prison to prevent the executions. The gathering at the central prison in Isfahan began late on Sunday night. Videos showed a group of people in Isfahan arriving by car around the central prison, demanding a halt to the execution.
A group of legal experts and lawyers wrote to the head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic and the judges of the Supreme Court, requesting an immediate halt to the execution of all sentences, especially for the three defendants in the "Khaneh Isfahan" case.
Following the execution of the defendants in the "Khaneh Isfahan" case on the morning of 19 May, pressure on their families increased. Two of Majid Kazemi's brothers were arrested, and their sister was detained while following up on their situation. Saleh Mirhashemi's mother reported that government forces handcuffed her husband and did not allow them to hold a ceremony.
Majid Kazemi's family encountered his burnt grave when visiting his resting place. The night before, officials had contacted his family, warning them not to visit the grave.
