Marzieh Farsi

Marzieh Farsi, born in 1967, was initially arrested in February 2020 and sentenced to five years in prison after enduring months of interrogation and detention under poor conditions. She was released in March 2023.

On 21 August 2023, coinciding with the anniversary of nationwide protests, Marzieh Farsi was arrested again. She was initially transferred to Ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence. After months of interrogation, she was sentenced by Judge Iman Afshari at the Tehran Revolutionary Court to 15 years in prison on charges of "armed rebellion" and "connection with the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran." However, due to a lack of credible evidence, the sentence was reduced to five years in prison upon appeal.

As of 27 November 2025, political prisoner Marzieh Farsi is serving her five-year sentence in the women's ward of Evin Prison. Reports indicate worsening health issues, denial of access to medical services, and increasing security pressures. She is held alongside approximately 60 other female prisoners in Ward 6 of Evin, which has been criticised for its high humidity, lack of facilities, and unsanitary conditions, creating a stressful and deteriorating environment.

Marzieh Farsi has been battling cancer and heart disease for several years. Her chronic headaches, severe dizziness, and general weakness have intensified since her transfer from Qarchak Prison to Evin. However, prison authorities have not provided effective medical treatment. Her doctor had previously prescribed essential medications to control the growth of cancer cells and manage her heart condition, but the prison has blocked the entry of these medications citing administrative and security reasons.
