Ramin Pourandarjani

Ramin Pourandarjani, who served as a duty officer in the health and medical department of the Law Enforcement Force, was regularly dispatched to the Kahrizak detention centre. He witnessed the dire conditions of detainees, including Amir Javadifar, Mohsen Rouholamini, and Mohammad Kamrani. Following the deaths of these individuals, security agencies exerted significant pressure on Ramin to attribute the cause of death to "meningitis" or "heatstroke." However, he refused to sign a false certificate and reported the actual cause (signs of beating and torture) to the authorities.

On 10 November 2009, Ramin Pourandarjani's body was found in his rest room at the medical building of the Law Enforcement Force. At that time, only eight months remained until the completion of his military service. Initially, officials stated the cause of death as "heart attack in sleep" and later as "suicide." However, some time later, the then Tehran prosecutor announced that the cause of death was "drug poisoning" (propranolol pills in a salad). Before his death, Ramin had informed his family and friends that he felt unsafe after testifying in parliament against Kahrizak and had been threatened by certain officials.

His family was not permitted to conduct an independent autopsy, and his burial ceremony was held under strict security measures in Tabriz. The family repeatedly stated that Ramin had no motive or inclination for suicide and was completely healthy and happy before his death. They regarded Ramin as a victim who "knew too much" and was unwilling to sacrifice the truth about Kahrizak for expediency.
