Mohsen Shekhari was 23 years old and lived in East Tehran. He was arrested on September 13, 2022, during the uprising of Iran's Woman, Life, Freedom in Sattar Khan Street, Tehran. It has been said that he blocked a road in Sattar Khan Street, where he himself was a resident; many government news agencies stated the issue as "the act of stabbing and injuring an agent's shoulder", and then some, such as Keyhan, said that he attempted to injure an agent with force, resulting in 13 stitches in the left shoulder of the Basij militia. The Mizan News Agency affiliated with Iran's Judiciary made Shekari's case public only two days before the execution, and before that his name was not in any news agency or social networks, and this matter caused the anger of people and activists in this field.
His court was held on November 1, 2022 under the chairmanship of Abul Qasim Salavati. Shekari was found guilty for drawing a weapon "with the intention of killing, creating terror and disrupting the order and security of society" and was charged with war against god (muharibeh). He was sentenced to death in what Mahmoud Amiri Moghadam, Iran's human rights chief, called "a show trial without any legal process" in the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Iran. Shekari protested this verdict, but the Supreme Court approved the verdict on November 20, 2022 despite the fact that Shekari did not have a lawyer at the time of the appeal.
Shekari was hanged on the morning of December 8, 2022. While the sentence was carried out, his family waited outside the prison for news about his fate so that the execution would not take place. He was 23 years old at the time of execution. He was the first person who was executed because of his role in the protests that started in September 2022 following the death of Mahsa Amini. After the execution, the Broadcasting Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran broadcast parts of Shekari's arrest and trial in an interrupted or modified version.
There was no notification regarding his arrest, and the Committee for the Followup of Arrested Woman, Life, Freedom says that efforts to find his identity were unsuccessful until his execution. According to one of the prisoners, Shekari was working in a café and was a fan of video games. Shahriar Shams, a political prisoner, says he was working in a café located in Haft Houz and was hoping that Basiji (who was injured by Shekari) would give his consent to free him.
Shekari's body was buried on December 9, 2022 under strict security measures and with the presence of only a few of his relatives in 92 Behesht Zahra plot in Tehran.
محسن شکاری ۲۳ سال داشت و ساکن شرق تهران بود. او در ۳ مهر ۱۴۰۱ در جریان خیزش زن، زندگی، آزادی ایران در خیابان ستارخان تهران بازداشت شد. گفته شده که او جاده ای را در خیابان ستارخان که خود نیز ساکن آنجا بوده؛ مسدود کرده است. در ابتدا خبرگزاری های دولتی بسیاری موضوع را «اقدام به چاقو کشی و مجروح کردن کتف یک مامور» بیان کردند و سپس برخی همچون کیهان گفتند که او با قداره اقدام به زخمی کردن یک مامور داشته و منجر به ۱۳ بخیه در شانه چپ بسیجی شبه نظامی شده است. خبرگزاری میزان وابسته به قوه قضائیه ایران پرونده شکاری تنها دو روز قبل از اعدام عمومی کرد و قبل از آن اسم او در هیچ خبرگزاری و شبکه هایی اجتماعی نبود و همین موضوع مورد موجب خشم دوچندان مردم و فعالان در این زمینه بود.
دادگاه شکاری در دهم آبان ۱۴۰۱ به ریاست ابوالقاسم صلواتی برگزار شد. شکاری به دلیل کشیدن سلاح «به قصد قتل، ایجاد رعب و وحشت و برهم زدن نظم و امنیت جامعه» مجرم شناخته و به محاربه متهم شد. او در آنچه محمود امیری مقدم، رئیس حقوق بشر ایران، آن را «محاکمه نمایشی بدون هیچ گونه روند قانونی» در دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی ایران نامید، به اعدام محکوم شد. شکاری به این حکم اعتراض کرد اما دیوان عالی کشور علی رغم عدم وکالت شکاری در زمان تجدیدنظر، در ۲۹ آبان ۱۴۰۱ حکم را تأیید کرد.
شکاری در صبح روز ۱۷ آذر ۱۴۰۱ به دار آویخته شد. خانواده او در حالی که حکم اجرا شد، در بیرون از زندان منتظر اخبار جدید در مورد سرنوشت او بودند تا اعدام انجام نشود. او در زمان اعدام ۲۳ سال داشت. او نخستین فردی بود که به دلیل نقشش در اعتراضات که در شهریور ۱۴۰۱ به دنبال درگذشت مهسا امینی آغاز گردید، اعدام شد. پس از اعدام، سازمان صدا و سیمای جمهوری اسلامی ایران بخش هایی از بازداشت و محاکمه شکاری را به صورت منقطع یا به قولی اصلاح شده منتشر کرد.
در رابطه با بازداشت او اطلاع رسانی انجام نشد و کمیته پیگیری بازداشت شدگان قیام زن، زندگی، آزادی می گوید تا پیش از اعدام، اقدام برای یافتن هویت او بی نتیجه ماند. به گفتهٔ یکی از زندانیان، شکاری در کافه مشغول به کار و از طرفداران بازی های ویدئویی بود. شهریار شمس، زندانی سیاسی، می گوید او در کافه ای واقع در هفت حوض کار می کرد و امیدوار بود که بسیجی (که توسط شکاری مجروح شد) به او رضایت بدهد.
پیکر شکاری در ۱۸ آذر تحت تدابیر شدید امنیتی و تنها با حضور تعداد اندکی از نزدیکان او در قطعه ۹۲ بهشت زهرای تهران به خاک سپرده شد.
