مرتضی یعقوبی ۴۳ ساله ۱۸ دی ۱۴۰۴ در جریان اعتراضات مردمی شهر اسفراین با شلیک گلوله جنگی از سوی نیروهای نظامیامنیتی جمهوری اسلامی کشته شد. نهادهای حکومتی پس از اخذ تعهد کتبی مبنی بر عدم برگزاری مراسم ختم پیکر را به خانواده تحویل دادند و مراسم خاکسپاری در روستای «تقی آباد» شهرستان اسفراین استان خراسان شمالی برگزار گردید. او پدر سه فرزند و راننده ماشین سنگین بود.
