Rahmat Abjameh, a resident of Mahabad, was arrested by security forces in Mahabad's Esteghlal Square on 22 June 2022. After being taken to his home, where some personal items were searched and seized, he was transferred to the detention centre of the Urmia Intelligence Office for interrogation. On 19 July 2022, he was moved to Mahabad County Prison.
On 1 September 2022, after undergoing interrogation and being formally charged, Rahmat Abjameh was released from Mahabad Prison on bail. During the judicial proceedings, he was sentenced by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to two years and eight months of imprisonment for alleged membership in a Kurdish opposition party and propaganda against the Iranian government. This sentence was later reduced to two years by the West Azerbaijan Province Court of Appeal.
On Wednesday, 11 September 2024, Rahmat Abjameh, a political prisoner held in Mahabad County Prison, was released after completing his prison term.
رحمت آبجامه، اهل مهاباد، در تاریخ ۱ تیر ماه ۱۴۰۱ توسط نیروهای امنیتی در میدان استقلال شهر مهاباد بازداشت شد. پس از انتقال به منزلش و تفتیش و ضبط برخی لوازم شخصی، وی جهت بازجویی به بازداشتگاه اداره اطلاعات ارومیه منتقل و در تاریخ ۲۸ تیر ماه ۱۴۰۱ به زندان شهرستان مهاباد منتقل شد.
در تاریخ ۱۰ شهریور ماه ۱۴۰۱، رحمت آبجامه پس از طی مراحل بازجویی و تفهیم اتهام با تودیع وثیقه از زندان مهاباد آزاد شد. در مراحل دادرسی، وی توسط دادگاه انقلاب مهاباد به اتهام عضویت در یکی از احزاب کرد اپوزیسیون حکومت ایران و تبلیغ علیه نظام به ۲ سال و ۸ ماه حبس تعزیری محکوم شد. این حکم توسط دادگاه تجدیدنظر استان آذربایجان غربی به ۲ سال حبس تعزیری کاهش یافت.
در روز چهارشنبه ۲۱ شهریور ۱۴۰۳، رحمت آبجامه، زندانی سیاسی محبوس در زندان شهرستان مهاباد، با پایان دوران حبس تعزیری خود آزاد شد.
