In the spring of 2026, Mohammad Lotfi-Far was sentenced by the First Branch of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to a total of 12 years of imprisonment on charges including "acting against national security." Following an appeal and review by the provincial Court of Appeal, this sentence was reduced to 5 years and 5 months.
Mohammad Lotfi-Far was arrested by intelligence agency forces in Mahabad on 20 June 2025 and transferred to one of the agency's detention centres in Urmia for interrogation. After the completion of the interrogation process, he was transferred to Mahabad prison and subsequently released temporarily on bail until the final verdict was issued.
محمد لطفی فر بهار ۱۴۰۵ در دادگاه بدوی توسط شعبه اول دادگاه انقلاب مهاباد بابت اتهاماتی از جمله «اقدام علیه امنیت ملی» در مجموع به ۱۲ سال حبس تعزیری محکوم شده بود. این حکم پس از اعتراض و بررسی در دادگاه تجدیدنظر استان به ۵ سال و ۵ ماه حبس تعزیری تقلیل یافت.
محمد لطفی فر در تاریخ ۳۰ خردادماه ۱۴۰۴ (۲۰ ژوئن ۲۰۲۵) توسط نیروهای اداره اطلاعات در مهاباد بازداشت و جهت بازجویی به یکی از بازداشتگاه های امنیتی این نهاد در ارومیه منتقل شده بود. وی پس از اتمام مراحل بازجویی به زندان مهاباد منتقل و متعاقباً با تودیع قرار وثیقه تا زمان صدور حکم قطعی به صورت موقت آزاد شده بود.
