دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی ایران سپهبد فخرالدین مدرس را به عنوان "مفسد فی الارض" شناسایی کرد. بر اساس اطلاعیه دادگاه، پس از ۹ ساعت رسیدگی و شور، حکم اعدام او و ۶ مقام پیشین دیگر صادر شد. گزارش شده است که برای اجرای حکم، بخش هایی از زندان قصر در حالت آماده باش قرار گرفت و کلیه رفت و آمدها تحت کنترل دقیق نگهبانان بود. متهمین پس از پایان دادگاه با چشم های بسته به سلول های خود هدایت شدند. ساعتی بعد، زندانیان به یکی از اتاق های زندان قصر منتقل شدند و حکم دادگاه بار دیگر قرائت شد. به هر کدام قلم و کاغذی داده شد تا آخرین حرف هایشان را بنویسند. در ساعت ۴ و ۱۵ دقیقه صبح ۱۴ اسفند ۱۳۵۷، سپهبد فخرالدین مدرس در حیاط زندان قصر تیرباران شد.
The Islamic Revolutionary Court of Iran identified Lieutenant General Fakhruddin Modarres as "corrupt on earth." According to the court's announcement, after nine hours of deliberation, the death sentence was issued for him and six other former officials. It was reported that sections of Qasr Prison were placed on high alert for the execution, with all movements closely monitored by guards. After the court session concluded, the accused were led back to their cells with their eyes covered. An hour later, the prisoners were transferred to a room within Qasr Prison, where the court's verdict was read again. Each was given pen and paper to write their final words. At 4:15 a.m. on 5 March 1979, Lieutenant General Fakhruddin Modarres was executed by firing squad in the courtyard of Qasr Prison.
