بامداد چهارشنبه ۱۷ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴، خبرگزاری رژیم اسلامی از اجرای حکم اعدام علی اردستانی به اتهام «جاسوسی» خبر داد. بر اساس این گزارش، او پیش تر به اتهام همکاری با سازمان اطلاعاتی موساد بازداشت و متهم شده بود که اطلاعات مربوط به مکان های حساس و برخی سوژه های هدف را در اختیار این نهاد قرار داده است. قوه قضاییه اعلام کرده است که روند رسیدگی به پرونده علی اردستانی در چارچوب قوانین موجود انجام شده و حکم صادره پس از طی مراحل قضایی به اجرا درآمده است. اما اشاره ای به برگزاری دادگاه در پشت درهای بسته و همچنین دسترسی وی به وکیل انتخابی نکرد.
