Mohsen Dogmehchi

In the early hours of 9 Farvardin 1390 (29 March 2011), Mohsen Doghmehchi, a political prisoner and a Tehran bazaar merchant, lost his life in prison after years of imprisonment and deprivation of medical treatment. He, who had spent 9 years of his life in prison, died while suffering from pancreatic cancer and, according to reports, had been deprived of access to necessary treatment.

Mohsen Doghmehchi had previously, during the years 1360 to 1367 (1981–1988), spent 7 years in prison and under torture, and was once again arrested on 16 Shahrivar 1388 (7 September 2009) for helping the families of political prisoners and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and exile. In the final years of his imprisonment, he had developed cancer, and his physical condition began to deteriorate from summer 1389 (summer 2010). Doctors had prescribed chemotherapy as the only course of treatment, but this treatment was not carried out for him.

In the last days of his life, when he was transferred from Gohardasht Prison to a hospital due to the severe worsening of his condition, the restrictions and pressures on him continued. Reports indicate that during this period he was still under the supervision of security officers and was prevented from meeting his relatives. Ultimately, he lost his life in the early hours of 9 Farvardin (29 March 2011).
