Shahriar Baratnia, a former political prisoner and Bakhtiari activist from Yasuj, who was arrested after being deported from Turkey and transferred to Evin Prison, has been sentenced by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran to a total of 5 years and 8 months of imprisonment.
Reports indicate that Shahriar Barati Nia, a former political prisoner and labour activist, has been extradited from Turkey to Iran. It has been reported that he was arrested in Istanbul and transferred to a camp near the Iranian border before being handed over to Iranian authorities. It is also stated that Turkish officials did not allow him to meet with a lawyer and forced him to sign a voluntary extradition letter. Shahriar Barati Nia had sought asylum in Turkey before the nationwide protests in Iran the previous year.
