Ashkan Sohrabi was a young man who died from three gunshot wounds to his chest during the public protests against the results of the June 12, 2009, elections on Saturday, June 20, 2009.

Ashkan Sohrabi, an information technology engineering student at Azad University of Qazvin and a professional taekwondo practitioner with a second-degree black belt, was a passionate supporter of the Persepolis football team. Born into a family with a history of military service, he became a symbol of victimhood during the protests following the 2009 elections in Iran.

On the evening of 20 June 2009, despite his family's concerns, Ashkan left home, expressing his determination to defend people's rights. At approximately 7:30 PM, at the intersection of Boustan Saadi and Roudaki streets, he was shot by armed forces. Three bullets struck his chest, one of which ruptured his aorta.

In his final moments, he was held by his mother, who had reached the scene, and he expressed his pain. He passed away shortly after at Rasoul Akram Hospital.

His body was handed over to the family with the condition that no public ceremony would be held. Under strict security, he was buried in section 257 of Behesht Zahra Cemetery. During the burial, officials tore up announcements and confiscated the family's camera.

The criminal court declined to pursue the family's complaint, stating that filing a complaint against the government with the government itself was futile.

Despite repeated summonses to the Revolutionary Court, the Sohrabi family continued to seek justice. With no resolution in Iran, they referred the case to international bodies, resulting in Ashkan Sohrabi's inclusion in the list of victims of repression in a report by the United Nations Special Rapporteur.
