The Revolutionary Court of Shahroud has sentenced Mehdi Karbalaei Mohammadi, who was arrested during the protests in December 2025 in the city, to six years in prison. The sentence was issued based on two charges: propaganda against the regime and assembly and collusion to commit crimes against the internal and external security of the country, resulting in one year and five years of imprisonment, respectively.
Reports indicate that Mehdi Karbalaei Mohammadi, who holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, was denied access to a lawyer and the right to defence during the court proceedings.
