Amirali Zakerifard

According to published reports, Amirali Zakeri, a civil activist, was arrested by intelligence forces in Ilam on 18 July 2025. He has been accused of charges including "propaganda against the government, spreading falsehoods, and insult." This arrest and the security charges have prompted reactions on social media and from human rights organisations. Amirali Zakeri has been sentenced to three counts of 10 years imprisonment and one count of one year imprisonment, totalling 31 years in prison.

His brother, Emad Zakeri, has also been sentenced to multiple terms, including two counts of 10 years, two counts of 5 years, two counts of 2 years, and one count of one year imprisonment, totalling 34 years in prison. These sentences have not been consolidated under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code and have been calculated separately. Additionally, each of the two prisoners has been sentenced to 74 lashes and a monetary fine.

Previously, on 2 November 2022, Amirali and Emad Zakeri were arrested by agents of the Ilam Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence Organisation. Following their arrest, the two brothers were transferred to the detention centre of the Ilam Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence Organisation and were held under pressure for 15 days. Eventually, they were temporarily released from prison on heavy bail.
