On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Mohammad Taghi Akbarnejad was sentenced to imprisonment and defrocking.
In recent days, Mohammad Taghi Akbarnejad, a cleric protesting against the policies of the Islamic Republic government, was sentenced by a court judge to a total of 1 year, 11 months, and 6 days of imprisonment and 3 years of defrocking.
This protesting cleric explained on his personal page that he was sentenced to 8 months and 1 day of imprisonment for "weakening the system," 1 year, 3 months, and 5 days for "insulting the leadership and the founder of the Islamic Republic," and 3 years of defrocking for "defaming the clergy."
He also wrote that he was grateful to God Almighty for the opportunity to defend the oppressed people of Iran.
It is worth mentioning that Mohammad Taghi Akbarnejad was arrested by the intelligence agents of the Qom province's IRGC in late February 2024 and transferred to the detention center of that security institution for interrogation and the formation of a judicial case. While he was in a state of uncertainty and deprived of the basic rights of an accused during his interrogation period, he was charged by the prosecutor of the Qom province and released on bail from Qom Central Prison on March 9, 2024.
On March 8, 2024, this critical cleric had released an audio file explaining the reason for his arrest, stating that he was held in solitary confinement in a security prison for 14 days from the day of his arrest. During this time, intelligence interrogators from the Qom province forced him to apologize on camera and promised that he would be released and return to his normal life afterward. In response to this request, he stated that his family is the people of Iran. The interrogators even forced the families he had helped to file complaints against him for impersonation under the pretext of being an envoy of the leadership and deception.
He also clarified that the charges against him were propagandistic activities against the system and defamation of the clergy, and he was deprived of all seminary benefits such as stipends and insurance.
This critical and protesting cleric had previously been threatened with judicial case-building by security organizations due to his objections to the current situation in the country and mismanagement.

روز پنجشنبه ۳۰مرداد ماه ۱۴۰۴، محمدتقی اکبرنژاد، به حبس تعزیری و خلع لیاس روحانیت، محکوم شد.
به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران، طی روزهای اخیر، محمد تقی اکبرنژاد، روحانی معترض به سیاستهای حکومت جمهوری اسلامی، توسط قاضی شعبه دادگاهی، در مجموع به ۱ سال و ۱۱ ماه و ۶ روز حبس تعزیری و ۳ سال خلع لباس روحانیت، محکوم شد.
این روحانی معترض، با انتشار خبر مذکور در صفحه شخصی خود تشریح کرد:”از بابت اتهام «تضعیف نظام» به تحمل ۸ ماه و ۱ روز حبس تعزیری، به اتهام «توهین به رهبری و بنیانگذار جمهوری اسلامی» هم به تحمل ۱ سال و ۳ ماه ۵ روز حبس تعزیری و از بابت اتهام «هتک حیثیت روحانیت» هم به ۳ سال خلع لباس روحانیت، محکوم شدم.”
وی در ادامه همچنین نوشت:”خداوند متعال را به خاطر توفیق دفاع از مردم ستم دیده ایران سپاسگزارم.”
لازم به اشاره است، محمدتقی اکبرنژاد، اواخر بهمن ماه ۱۴۰۲، توسط ماموران اطلاعات سپاه استان قم، بازداشت و برای بازجویی و تشکیل پرونده قضایی به بازداشتگاه آن نهاد امنیتی منتقل شد و در حالی که بطور بلاتکلیف در محرومیت از حقوق اولیه یک متهم دوران بازجویی خود را سپری کرده از سوی بازپرس دادسرای استان قم، تفهیم اتهام و در تاریخ ۱۹ اسفند ماه ۱۴۰۲، با تودیع قرار وثیقه از زندان مرکزی قم آزاد شد.
این روحانی منتقد، در تاریخ ۱۸ اسفند ماه ۱۴۰۲، با انتشار یک فایل صوتی در تشریح علت بازداشت خود اعلام کرده بود:”از روز بازداشت به مدت ۱۴ روز در سلول انفرادی در یک زندان امنیتی نگهداری شدم و طی این مدت بازجویان اطلاعات سپاه استان قم، من را مجبور به عذرخواهی در مقابل دوربین از کردند و وعده داده بودند پس از آن آزاد و به زندگی عادی خود برخواهم گشت و من هم در پاسخ به این درخواست اعلام کردم خانواده من مردم ایران هستند. بازجویان حتی خانوادهایی که من به آنها کمک می کردم را مجبور کرده بودند تا از من به اتهام جعل عنوان تحت عنوان فرستاده رهبری و فریب شکایت کنند.”
وی همچنین در خصوص اتهامات منتسب شده خود تصریح کرده بود:”اتهامات منتسب شده به من فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام ، هتک حیثیت روحانیت عنوان شده و از تمام مزایای حوزه ای از قبیل شهریه و بیمه محروم شدم.”
این روحانی منتقد و معترض، پیشتر هم به سبب اعتراض به وضعیت جاری در کشور و سوء مدیریت، از سوی ارگانهای امنیتی تهدید به پرونده سازی قضایی شده بود.
