Sanaj Jaleh was born on July 23, 1984, in Paveh. He was a student of performing arts at the University of Tehran and a Sunni Kurd. He was killed by security forces' gunfire during the Green Movement protests on February 14, 2011.

State media portrayed Sanaj Jaleh as a member of the Basij who was killed by the People's Mujahedin of Iran during the demonstrations on February 14. Fars News Agency published an image claiming it was Jaleh's Basij membership card. Some protest-related websites did not deny his membership in the Basij, which has millions of members in Iran, but noted that he was a supporter of the Green Movement and participated in the February 14 protests in their favor. A cousin of Sanaj Jaleh mentioned in an interview that troublemakers want to send young people like Sanaj, who was pure and a memorizer of the Quran, to their deaths. His father, in an interview with Fars News Agency, stated that his son was a memorizer of the Quran and dedicated his life to God, but some godless people did not allow the fruit of his life to flourish. A website claimed that two Basij officials from western Iran brought 750 million rials in cash to Sanaj Jaleh's father, which he refused to accept. In a television interview, it was stated that Jaleh was one of the sources of information for the Kayhan newspaper about opposition groups, and during a meeting with Montazeri, he provided them with news that was published in Kayhan at the time. It was declared that his assassination was not accidental and that Sanaj had been identified by assassination teams before his martyrdom.

Friends of Sanaj Jaleh, including Hatef Soltani, one of the detainees from Kahrizak detention center, denied this affiliation and considered him a supporter of the Green Movement. It was claimed that the Jaleh family was under government pressure to portray him as a supporter of the government. A website introduced him as a member of Mir Hossein Mousavi's election campaign, and another website published a photo showing Sanaj Jaleh alongside Hossein Ali Montazeri. Sanaj wrote articles for Azma magazine, which supported the Green Movement. He also acted in a short film called "A Brick in the Wall," which protested the state of society and was banned by the government.

Bahman Mahmoudi, the secretary of the dormitory council at the University of Tehran, stated a few hours before the release of 33 detainees on the day of Sanaj Jaleh's funeral, in an interview with Fars News Agency published on February 17, 2011, that the University of Tehran did not have an Islamic Students Association and that Sanaj Jaleh was not a member of any group or faction at the university.

Sanaj's funeral was held on February 16 with a large crowd from the University of Tehran to the University of Tehran. This event turned into a confrontation between government supporters and opponents. It was reported that from early morning, the University of Tehran was occupied by pro-government military forces, and several students were attacked and some arrested. It was also reported that students were not allowed to participate in the funeral procession. On the day of the funeral, Qaneh Jaleh, Sanaj Jaleh's brother, stated in an interview with Voice of America that Sanaj Jaleh was not a Basij member and that his family was under pressure from government agents. He further claimed that Sanaj was a supporter of Ayatollah Montazeri and the Green Movement, like Bahman Ghobadi, and that the Basij card attributed to him was forged by his cousin, an employee of the Ministry of Intelligence. He also mentioned that unfortunately, Sanaj Jaleh's body was not being released to them, and his family would not attend the memorial ceremony, which was being held by Sanaj's enemies. Despite his claims, part of Sanaj Jaleh's memorial ceremony, attended by his other brother and father, was broadcast on state television. Following this interview, a website reported that Qaneh Jaleh was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Paveh after his revelations about Sanaj Jaleh.

In 2005, Sanaj Jaleh published a short story titled "The Bus" in the Azma monthly magazine.
