محبوبه شعبانی، در ۱۳ بهمن 1404 در مشهد بازداشت شد و پس از گذراندن دوره ای طولانی در سلول انفرادی، به بند زنان زندان وکیل آباد منتقل شد. او به دلیل انتقال مجروحان اعتراضات روزهای ۱۸، ۱۹ و ۲۰ دی ماه همان سال با موتورسیکلت شخصی خود به بیمارستان، به «اقدام عملیاتی در جهت تحکیم اسرائیل، آمریکا و عوامل وابسته به گروه های اپوزیسیون» متهم شده است، اتهامی سنگین که می تواند پیامدهای جدی قضایی برای او به همراه داشته باشد.

The death sentence for Ms Shabani was issued by the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad on the fabricated and vague charge of "operational actions to strengthen Israel, the USA, and elements affiliated with opposition groups," and was communicated to her defence attorney today. The court session to address the charges against this political prisoner had previously been held on September 1st.
Mahboubeh Shabani was arrested in Mashhad on 2 February 2026. After spending a long period in solitary confinement, she was transferred to the women's ward of Vakilabad Prison. She has been accused of "operational activities in support of Israel, the United States, and groups affiliated with opposition factions" due to her actions of transporting injured protesters to the hospital on her personal motorcycle during the protests on 8, 9, and 10 January 2026. This serious charge could have significant legal consequences for her.

has been transferred from the Aramesh Ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad to the quarantine ward without any explanation. According to informed sources, she has been told that she may face a death sentence.
In the initial indictment, she was charged with "moharebeh" ("enmity against God"), an offence punishable by death under Iranian law. However, this charge was removed from the indictment several weeks before it was finalised. Nevertheless, due to the other charges brought against her, concerns remain that she could still be sentenced to death.
