Abedin Khazaei, aged 51, was killed by gunfire from government suppression forces during protests in Fardis, Karaj, on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
According to his relatives, Abedin Khazaei took to the streets "for the pain of the people" and sacrificed his life.
A person close to the 51-year-old citizen stated that on January 8 in Fardis, Karaj, the government's forces targeted people with a barrage of gunfire. Abedin was with his family, including his wife, son, and daughter. They all managed to escape, but the scream of a young girl stopped Abedin.
Eyewitnesses reported that Abedin could have fled but stayed to save a girl who had been shot in the shoulder. Armed forces warned him to leave her and go, but Abedin picked up the injured girl and continued on his way. The officers then shot him three times in the head and face, killing him.
Abedin Khazaei was originally from the village of Kutahdareh, part of the Khazal district in Nahavand city, Hamadan province.
He overcame many hardships and deprivations. In 1991, he began studying agricultural engineering at Bu-Ali University in Hamadan. Later, he pursued a master's degree in biotechnology at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sanandaj. He published dozens of articles and books in his field of expertise.
A person close to him mentioned that Abedin had opportunities to benefit from government privileges easily. He had received several job offers from the government but always said he would use his knowledge and expertise for entrepreneurship, not for government employment. He ran a specialized Ganoderma mushroom cultivation workshop in Shahriar County.
Government forces handed over Abedin Khazaei's body to his family on January 10, 2026. They were told not to chant slogans, to commit to saying he was a Basij member, but the family refused, and his body was quietly buried in Vahideh Cemetery in Shahriar.

«عابدین خزایی» ۵۱ساله روز پنجشنبه ۱۸دی۱۴۰۴ در اعتراضات «فردیس» کرج به ضرب گلوله ماموران سرکوب حکومت کشته شده است.
عابدین خزایی به گفته نزدیکانش «به خاطر درد ملت» به خیابان رفت و جانش را فدا کرد.
فرد نزدیک به این شهروند ۵۱ساله می گوید: «۱۸دی توی فردیس کرج شلیک رگبار نیروهای حکومتی مردم را هدف گرفت. عابدین همراه با خانواده اش بود. همسر و پسر و دخترش هم بودند. همه موفق شدند فرار کنند که صدای جیغ دختر نوجوانی عابدین را متوقف کرد.»
شاهدان عینی گفته اند عابدین می توانست فرار کند اما برای نجات دختری که از ناحیه کتف هدف گلوله قرار گرفته بود ایستاد: «نیروهای مسلح هشدار می دادند که ولش کن برو اما عابدیت دختر زخمی را بغل کرد و به راهش ادامه داد. مامورها هم سه گلوله جنگی به سر و صورتش شلیک کردند و او را کشتند.»
عابدین خزایی اصالتا اهل روستای «کوتاهدره» از توابع بخش «خزل» از شهرهای نهاوند در استان همدان بود.
او با دشواری و سختی بر محرومیت هایی که داشت غالب شد. سال ۱۳۷۰ موفق شد در رشته مهندسی کشاورزی تحصیل را در دانشگاه بوعلی همدان آغاز کند. پس از آن در مقطع کارشناسی ارشد در رشته بیوتکنولوژی به دانشکده مهندسی دانشگاه سنندج رفت. ده ها مقاله و کتاب در حوزه تخصصی خود منتشر کرده بود.
فرد نزدیک به او می گوید: «عابدین به راحتی فرصت استفاده را رانت های حکومتی را داشت. بارها برا استخدام در حکومت پیشنهادهایی دریافت کرده بود اما همیشه می گفت من از سواد و تخصصم برای کارآفرینی استفاده می کنم نه استخدام در ادارات حکومت. یک کارگاه پروش قارچ تخصصی گانودرما در شهرستان شهریار داشت.»
ماموران حکومتی پیکر عابدین خزایی را ۲۰دی۱۴۰۴ به خانواده تحویل دادند: « گفتند شعار ندهید. تعهد بدهید و بگویید بسیجی بوده ولی خانواده تن ندادند و پیکرش در سکوت به خاک آرامستان وحیدیه شهریار سپرده شد.»
