Mehdi Farid

On 10 November 2025, Mehdi Farid, a security prisoner previously held in Ward 7 of Evin Prison, was transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. This facility is known for carrying out execution sentences in the provinces of Tehran and Alborz.

On the same date, Mehdi Farid's family visited Evin Prison for a meeting but were informed that he was prohibited from visits. Following inquiries by the family, it was revealed that Mehdi Farid had been moved to Ghezel Hesar Prison. He has been sentenced to execution on charges of collaboration with Israel and other charges such as spreading corruption on earth and armed rebellion. Initially, the preliminary court sentenced him to 10 years in prison and restitution, but after the prosecutor's appeal, the sentence was changed to execution in the appellate court. His case is currently under appeal in the Supreme Court.

During the judicial process, Mehdi Farid was tried by a judge at the Tehran Revolutionary Court and was initially sentenced to restitution and 10 years of imprisonment. However, following the prosecutor's appeal and referral of the case to the Tehran Province Appellate Court, he was sentenced to execution on charges of armed rebellion through espionage for Mossad. His case has been referred to the Supreme Court.

Mehdi Farid was arrested by security agents in the winter of 2023 and, after being transferred to Greater Tehran Prison, was moved to a security ward in Evin Prison. His case was referred to the Tehran Revolutionary Court after the investigation and interrogation stages. Mehdi Farid was a former employee of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and had worked as a columnist for several newspapers prior to his arrest.
