In the coming days, Mahmoud Taravat Rouy, Masoud Ahmadian, and Nazanin Salari, defense attorneys, will be tried by the judge of the first branch of the Revolutionary Court and the Criminal Court Branch 2 in Shiraz, Fars Province, in a judicial case divided into two parts.

A knowledgeable source reported that in a few days, Mahmoud Taravat Rouy, Masoud Ahmadian, and Nazanin Salari will be tried in their first case by Judge Mahmoud Sadati in the first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz on charges of "collaborating with hostile governments," "assembly and collusion against national security," and "propaganda against the regime." In another part of the same case, they will be tried by the judge of the Criminal Court Branch 2 in Shiraz.

The source further noted that this summons is related to a case formed in 2020 with charges of "assembly and collusion against national security," "propaganda against the regime," and "collaboration with hostile governments" against Masoud Ahmadian, Nazanin Salari, and Mahmoud Taravat Rouy. However, it is important to note the legal deficiencies that led to the case being returned to the prosecution in 2022 due to incomplete judicial investigations, and these deficiencies remain unchanged in the indictment.

The source explained that the reasons for forming this case against the three attorneys include interviews with foreign media, organizing and participating in foreign workshops and conferences on children and women, efforts to change laws concerning children and women through communication with officials and decision-making and legislative centers (including the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs and parliament members), providing free consultations to women at risk of threats and violence, representing some ideological and political cases, raising awareness about violence against women, and activities related to the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

It is worth mentioning that in November 2020, Mahmoud Taravat Rouy, Masoud Ahmadian, and Nazanin Salari were summoned to the Department of Supervision and Follow-up of the Ministry of Intelligence in Shiraz by the investigator of Branch 10 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office. This summons lasted 45 days, during which each of these attorneys underwent 12 long interrogation sessions, but no charges were communicated to them. After the interrogations, their case was sent to the prosecution, and in the summer of 2021, these three attorneys were summoned, charged, and eventually released on bail of 1 billion tomans each by the investigator of Branch 10 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office in Shiraz.

Additionally, on May 8, 2022, the defendants in this case were issued a summons to trial by the Shiraz prosecutor in Branch 10 of the Prosecutor's Office on charges of "propaganda against the regime," "assembly and collusion to commit a crime against national security," and "communication and collaboration with hostile governments."

On November 1, 2022, Nazanin Salari and Mahmoud Taravat Rouy, along with Bahar Sahraiyan, were arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Shiraz and were released after some time.

According to the ruling issued by Branch 1 of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, she was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on the charge of assembly and collusion with the intent to commit crimes against national security, and one year for propaganda against the state.
Under the application of the law on aggregation of sentences (Article 134), only the most severe punishment—two years of discretionary imprisonment—will be enforceable. According to Emtedad, the court also acquitted her of the charge of cooperation with a hostile state.
In addition, alongside the prison sentence, she has been sentenced to a supplementary punishment of a two-year ban on leaving the country, along with the revocation of her passport.
It is also worth noting that, in addition to this case, this lawyer is facing parallel proceedings in Branch 112 of the Shiraz Criminal Court Two on other allegations, including encouraging corruption and prostitution and appearing in public places without the mandatory hijab. Legal action against her is still ongoing.
