Shahriar Nahid, 20, a medical student at Tehran University, was shot dead at the Sanandaj airport by order of the then Islamic jurist Sadeq Khalkhali. The judge charged the defendants with arms smuggling, incitement to riot, and murder, but no evidence was presented. It was all speculation. After nearly 30 minutes, Khalkhali declared the eleven men "corruptors on earth," who became known as the Sanandaj Airport Gunmen, whose gruesome images are well-known.
