Mehrzad Mousavi, a writer and researcher from Shiraz, was arrested by security forces at his home in Shiraz. The arrest took place on 1 November 2023.
In January 2024, he was sentenced by Branch One of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court to a total of 11 years in prison. The charges included "membership in opposition movements against the government" and "assembly and collusion," each resulting in five-year sentences, and "propaganda against the government," which led to a one-year sentence. Additionally, he was sentenced to supplementary punishments, including a two-year ban on leaving the country, passport cancellation, a ban on online activities, and exile to Bardsir, Kerman, each for two years.
Mehrzad Mousavi is currently serving his sentence in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz and is reported to be in poor physical condition due to illness and nutritional issues. He is the author of books such as "Iran in Two Invasions" and "An Inquiry into the History of Achaemenid Art" and has a background in historical and cultural research.
مهرزاد موسوی، نویسنده و پژوهشگر اهل شیراز، توسط نیروهای امنیتی در منزل خود در شهر شیراز بازداشت شد. این بازداشت در 10 آبان 1402 انجام شد.
در دی 1402، او توسط شعبه یک دادگاه انقلاب شیراز به اتهامات "عضویت در جریانات اپوزیسیون مخالف حکومت" و "اجتماع و تبانی"، هر یک به پنج سال و در خصوص اتهام "تبلیغ علیه حکومت" به یک سال و در مجموع به 11 سال حبس تعزیری محکوم شد. همچنین، به عنوان مجازات تکمیلی به منع خروج از کشور، ابطال گذرنامه، منع فعالیت در فضای مجازی و تبعید به بردسیر کرمان، هر یک به مدت دو سال محکوم شده است.
مهرزاد موسوی در حال حاضر در زندان عادل آباد شیراز دوران محکومیت خود را سپری می کند و به دلیل بیماری و وضعیت تغذیه، در شرایط جسمی نامساعدی به سر می برد. او نویسنده کتاب هایی همچون "ایران در دو یورش" و "جستاری در پیشینه هنر هخامنشی" است و در زمینه تاریخی و فرهنگی سابقه پژوهش دارد.
