Arash Sadeghi

Arash Sadeghi is an Iranian human rights and political activist who has been repeatedly arrested and imprisoned for his peaceful activism. Born in the 1980s, he was a student at Allameh Tabatabai University but was expelled due to his political activities.

Arash is particularly known for advocating the rights of political prisoners and protesting against human rights violations in Iran. He was first arrested in 2009, following the disputed presidential elections and the subsequent widespread protests. In the years that followed, he was detained multiple times for various reasons, including his social media activity, interviews with the press, and open letters criticising human rights abuses.

One of the most significant episodes in Arash Sadeghi's imprisonment was his long hunger strike in protest of the detention of his wife, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, a civil activist and writer. His hunger strike drew national and international attention to the conditions of political prisoners in Iran. His health deteriorated severely during the strike, but he remained firm in his stance.

In recent years, Arash has become a symbol of civil resistance in Iran due to his unwavering commitment to his principles. Human rights organisations like Amnesty International have repeatedly called for his unconditional release and condemned the treatment he has received as a clear violation of international human rights standards.

Arash Sadeghi has also been active in campaigns against the death penalty, in support of prisoners of conscience, and in defending freedom of expression in Iran. His writings and statements have been widely shared both inside Iran and abroad. The high personal cost he has paid for his activism has made him a prominent figure in the Iranian human rights movement.
