On Friday, January 19, 2024, Masoumeh Akbari, a writer, editor, civil activist, and political prisoner held in Evin Prison, is serving her prison sentence. This political prisoner has been sentenced to a total of 6 years of discretionary imprisonment, part of which is mandatory to serve.
According to an informed source in a conversation with the Human Rights Reporter in Iran: "Masoumeh Akbari, following the receipt of a notification from the Sana electronic notification system of the Judiciary, was summoned to serve her sentence and on October 28, 2023, she went to the first branch of the Enforcement of Judgments of District 33 of Tehran and was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence."
It is worth mentioning that on March 8, 2018, coinciding with International Women's Day, a protest gathering took place in front of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs building with the presence of Masoumeh Akbari and several other civil activists. This gathering turned violent with the presence of security forces, and this civil activist, along with several attendees, was arrested and after being transferred to the detention center and undergoing interrogation and then investigation, she was released on bail on March 12, 2018.
With the start of legal proceedings, Masoumeh Akbari was charged with assembly and collusion with the intent to act against national security and propaganda activities against the regime through participation in a protest gathering and siting in front of the Bar Association alongside Nasrin Sotoudeh. She was sentenced by Mohammad Moghiseh, the thenjudge of Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, to a total of 6 years of discretionary imprisonment.
This sentence was upheld following an appeal and the referral of Masoumeh Akbari's case to Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals, by Ahmad Zargar, the thenjudge of that court, on June 25, 2020.
Masoumeh Akbari is active in the fields of editing, article writing, and translation, and numerous articles by her have been published in the press, the Encyclopedia of Persian Language and Literature, and the Women's Encyclopedia of Iran and the World. Additionally, one of her translations in the field of children's literature won the Flying Turtle Award.
According to Human Rights in Iran, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Masoumeh Akbari, a civil activist and political prisoner held in Gharchak Varamin Prison, was conditionally released. She had been serving a fiveyear discretionary prison sentence.
A source familiar with the case told the Human Rights in Iran reporter: “Masoumeh Akbari was released from Gharchak Varamin Prison on August 20, 2025, following the approval of her request for conditional release. At the time, she had served onethird of her fiveyear discretionary prison sentence.”
به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران، روز چهارشنبه ۲۹ مردادماه ۱۴۰۴، معصومه اکبری، فعال مدنی و زندانی سیاسی محبوس در زندان قرچک ورامین، بطور مشروط آزاد شد. این زندانی سیاسی در حال تحمل دوران حبس تعزیری ۵ ساله خود بود.
به نقل از یک فرد مطلع در گفتگو با گزارشگر حقوق بشر در ایران:”معصومه اکبری، در پی تائید درخواست آزادی مشروط و در حالی که این فعال مدنی، میزان یک سوم از حکم حبس تعزیری ۵ ساله خود را سپری کرده بود در تاریخ ۲۹ مرداد ماه ۱۴۰۴ از زندان قرچک ورامین از زندان قرچک ورامین، آزاد شد.”
به گزارش حقوق بشر در ایران، امروز جمعه ۲۹ دی ماه ۱۴۰۲، معصومه اکبری، نویسنده، ویراستار، فعال مدنی و زندانی سیاسی محبوس در زندان اوین، دوران حبس تعزیری خود را سپری می کند. این زندانی سیاسی در مجموع به تحمل ۶ سال حبس تعزیری محکوم شده ک بخشی از آن لازم به اجرا است.
به نقل از یک فرد مطلع در گفتگو با گزارشگر حقوق بشر در ایران:”معصومه اکبری، در پی دریافت ابلاغیه ای از سامانه ثنا ابلاغ الکترونیک قوه قضائیه برای تحمل حبس احضار شد و در تاریخ ۶ آبان ماه ۱۴۰۲، به شعبه اول اجرای احکام دادسرای ناحیه ۳۳ تهران، مراجعه و و رای تحمل حبس به زندان اوین، منتقل شد.”
لازم به اشاره است، در تاریخ ۱۷ اسفند ماه ۱۳۹۶، مصادف با ۸ مارچ به مناسبت روز جهانی زن در مقابل ساختمان وزارت کار و امور اجتماعی تجمع اعتراضی با حضور معصومه اکبری و جمعی دیگر فعالان مدنی برگزار شده بود که این تجمع با حضور نیروهای امنیتی به خشونت کشیده شد و این فعال مدنی به همراه تنی چند از حاضران، بازداشت و پس از انتقال به بازداشتگاه و طی مراحل بازجویی ها و سپس بازپرسی در تاریخ ۲۱ اسفند ماه ۱۳۹۶، با تودیع قرار کفالت آزاد شد.
با آغاز مراحل دادرسی، معصومه اکبری، از بابت اتهامات اجتماع و تبانی به قصد اقدام علیه امنیت کشور و فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام از طریق شرکت در تجمع اعتراضی و شرکت در تحصن مقابل کانون وکلا به همراه نسرین ستوده ، توسط محمد مقیسه قاضی وقت شعبه ۲۸ دادگاه انقلاب تهران، در مجموع به تحمل ۶ سال حبس تعزیری، محکوم شد.
این حکم در پی اعلام اعتراض و ارجاع پرونده معصومه اکبری به شعبه ۳۶ دادگاه تجدیدنظر استان تهران، توسط احمد زرگر ـ قاضی وقت آن دادگاه، در تاریخ ۴ تیر ماه ۱۳۹۹، عینا تائید شد.
معصومه اکبری، در حوزه های ویراستاری، مقاله نویسی و ترجمه فعال است و مقالات متعددی از وی در مطبوعات، دانشنامهٔ زبان و ادب فارسی و نیز فرهنگنامهٔ زنان ایران و جهان منتشر شده است. همچنین یکی از ترجمه های وی در حوزهٔ ادبیات کودکان برندهٔ جایزهٔ لاک پشت پرنده شد.
