Taher Ghanbari was born in 1958 in the village of Dehshal, located in the Astaneh and Lahijan regions, to a family of farmers. Before the Iranian Revolution in 1979, he graduated from a teacher training college in Lahijan and became an educator.
From 1979 until early 1981, he established study groups. Around 20 June 1981, amid a climate of police and security measures imposed by the regime, Ghanbari fled from Gilan. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested in Tehran by regime forces and informants, and he was sentenced to eight years in prison in a show trial.
In the summer of 1987, despite having one year remaining until his release, he was executed. He was buried in a mass grave at Khavaran Cemetery.
طاهر قنبری سال ۱۳۳۷ در روستای دهشال از توابع آستانه و لاهیجان در خانواده ای کشاورز و زحمتکش بدنیا آمد. طاهر قبل از انقلاب بهمن۵۷ از دانشسرای مقدماتی لاهیجان فارغ التحصیل و آموزگار شد.
وی از سال ۵۷ تا اوایل سال ۶۰ با دایر کردن هسته های مطالعاتی ایجاد کرد. نزدیکِ سی ام خرداد سال شصت، با ایجاد جوّ پلیسی و امنیتی رژیم طاهر از گیلان متواری شد، پس از مدت کوتاهی در تهران توسط گشت های حزب الهی و کمیته چی و خبرچینان رژیم دستگیر، و در یک دادگاه فرمایشی به هشت سال زندان محکوم شد.
در تابستان۶۷ با وجود اینکه یک سال به آزادیش مانده بود، به دار آویخته شد. در گورستان خاوران بصورت گروهی دفن شد.
