Reports indicate that Mahmoud Najafi informed his family that while passing through an area near Azadi Square in Tehran, where a group of demonstrators was chanting, security officers apprehended him. He was reportedly subjected to severe physical assault, particularly to the head and other parts of his body, resulting in unconsciousness.
According to Mahmoud Najafi, the officers placed him, while unconscious, inside a vehicle that appeared to be carrying several injured individuals or bodies of deceased persons. Upon regaining consciousness, he made noise and pleaded, leading one of the officers to eventually remove him from the vehicle.
Mr. Najafi's family stated that, fearing the reaction of government authorities, they did not take him to the hospital immediately. However, after ten days of being bedridden at home, his physical condition deteriorated, compelling the family to seek medical attention at Tarfeh Hospital.
The report states that at the hospital, it was determined that Mahmoud had also been shot. Doctors requested the family to return the following day for his admission. However, Mahmoud Raisi Najafi passed away before being admitted to the hospital.
براساس گزارشها، محمود نجفی به اعضای خانواده خود گفت که هنگام عبور از محلی در نزدیکی میدان آزادی تهران که گروهی از تظاهرکنندگان در آن شعار می دادند، ماموران امنیتی او را گرفتند و به شدت از ناحیه سر و سایر نقاط بدن هدف ضرب و جرح قرار دادند و بیهوش کردند.
به گفته محمود نجفی، ماموران او را در حالت بیهوشی داخل اتومبیلی که ظاهرا حامل تعدادی افراد زخمی یا اجساد کشته شدگان بود انداختند اما او پس از به هوش آمدن، به سروصدا و التماس پرداخت و سرانجام یکی از ماموران، او را از این خودرو به پایین انداخت.
خانواده آقای نجفی گفته اند که از بیم واکنش مقامات دولتی، محمود را به بیمارستان منتقل نکردند اما پس از ده روز بستری بودن در خانه، وضع جسمی او رو به وخامت گذاشت و خانواده را ناگزیر به مراجعه به بیمارستان طرفه کرد.
براساس این گزارش، در بیمارستان تشخیص داده شد که محمود هدف اصابت گلوله هم قرار گرفته بود و پزشکان از خانواده خواستند تا روز بعد برای بستری کردن او مراجعه کنند ولی محمود رئیسی نجفی قبل از بستری شدن در بیمارستان درگذشت.
