Behzad Mohajer

Behzad Mohajer, was unmarried and resided in Tehran. He disappeared during a large and peaceful march on 15 June 2009. He was listed as missing for 40 days until his body was found under unclear circumstances.

The last contact Behzad had with his family was at 9 PM on 15 June 2009. He called from Azadi Square, describing the protest atmosphere as calm. After this call, his phone was turned off, and repeated searches by his family in hospitals, police stations, and Evin Prison yielded no results.

After 40 days without news, the family identified his image among the photographs of deceased individuals at the Kahrizak forensic centre on 1 August 2009. Officials claimed that the body had been delivered to the morgue on 21 June 2009, but his image had not been entered into the search system until August.

Behzad had been shot in the left side of the chest and the arm. Additionally, his teeth were broken, his mouth was injured, and bruises were visible on his body.

Family doctors who examined his body observed hospital adhesive marks, suggesting he had not died immediately and had been hospitalised for several days. The Mohajer family filed a case in the criminal court, seeking the identification and prosecution of those responsible.

Behzad Mohajer's body was buried on 2 August 2009 in section 208 of Behesht Zahra cemetery.
