Mostafa Karimbeigi, self-employed individual, was among those who lost their lives during the Ashura protests on 27 December 2009. He was killed by a bullet to the forehead. Witnesses and family members reported that after the shooting, his body was thrown from a bridge.
Despite the clear bullet wound on his forehead, the forensic medical authority declared the cause of death as "impact with a hard object" and "falling from a bridge." The family was compelled to accept this certificate to retrieve the body. His identity was concealed from the family for 14 days. Eventually, after extensive searching, the family identified his body at the Kahrizak forensic facility.
Authorities prevented his burial at Behesht-e Zahra cemetery and instead buried him under strict security measures in the village of Joqin, Shahriar. Security agencies attempted to portray him as a "Basij member" and organise a commemorative ceremony at his home, but faced strong resistance from the family. To prevent this portrayal, the Karimbeigi family did not hold a fortieth-day memorial ceremony.
